Introductory Narration: How to read a work of art and, why?

Our knowledge and appreciation of a work of art is proportional to the number of reading levels we can achieve. Visual, stylistic, iconographical, historical, and social characteristics reveal a kaleidoscope of links to the fabric of a particular culture. How can we learn the language of art? And why should we?
Over the course of the next 10 months we shall venture forth into the first half of the Twentieth century, witnessing an evolution which mirrors that of humanity and fills us with meaningful imagery. Step by step we shall find several possible answers to these questions.

This first presentation is an introductory guide to the basic elements of observation, analysis, and interpretation.
However, it is also full of practical tips about how to improve your experience of galleries, museums, and art exhibitions. The following six monthly narrations will touch upon some of the most important ideologies in modern art and introduce us to the first artistic avantgardes.

We are planning
  • Symbolism; painting the invisible and preparing for the 20th Century
  • Klimt, Schiele; From the Belle Epoque to the Vienna Secession
  • The eye of the beholder; the birth of Photography
  • Picasso vs the Italian Futurists; the revolution begins
  • Dada, Surrealism and the unconscious as muse
  • American Art; the New Frontier and the birth of Abstract Expressionism
FREE ENTRANCE
Art Narrations will have a duration of approx. 90+ minutes.
At the end of the Conference,  it is possible to have dinner at the Bistrot of the Club House
