Young Dimitris idealized his father during his detention. When he is released, his father reveals his true nature. Will Dimitris’need for affection and belonging prevail over his sense of justice?
What makes this film different? Which is the inspiration?
This is a story that is inspired during the three years the director spent as a volunteer in a hostel for young socially deprived teenage boys run by the Welfare Services of Cyprus. Many of these boys were either asylum seekers, boys with no families, or with drug addict parents or in prison.
During their extensive talks, Yianna Amerikanou got to know them and respect them and valued, even more, the meaning of belonging into a family. These were good boys, descent boys who are trying their best to stay off drugs, prostitution, stealing.
Some manage better, others less. But they all felt the same that if they had their families, things might have been different for them.
Dog is about stray people like stray dogs. Is the need to belong and be loved. No living life deserves a caged life.
